In the end I would like to write several words about Finland in general. On the first glimpse Finnish people seem to be aloof, but in fact they are really nice and friendly. They surely do not speak and laugh as much as Slovaks, but it might be caused by the language competency or precaution while meeting new people. Finland was the first country that acknowledged the equality between men and women. Finnish people were also among the first who granted every person to have an access to information (free WIFI zones can be found almost everywhere).
The only thing I do not like at all is a freaking expensive beer; they ask 5€ for a pint! That is absolutely preposterous; I am not going to pay so much money even if I am a total beer lover.
Worth of mentioning is also that you can see playing machines almost everywhere: in shops, large bus and train stations etc. – practically everywhere you have some time and small change to spend. Originally, I thought that Finnish people are notorious gamblers and lose much money on that. Surprisingly, the Finish state has a monopoly on entertainment business and all playing machines and casinos are owned solely by the state. The return rate is set to 80%, which means that you statistically get always your 80% back (in Slovakia it is about 14%). The rest goes straight to the social system fund, so the money is used for a good purpose. I wish our government in Slovakia would do the same.
The worst problem of Finnish people is alcohol. They drink like a fish and there is much crime and violence related to alcohol consumption. Even high prices of alcohol do not put off many people who spend their life in taverns. Understandably, due to long and dark winters people fall in depression and they find their solace in the bottle. As I have heard, it is much worse than one from a warm country can ever imagine. Therefore, I do not judge them; it is just a way of life. It is clear that the ancient Viking s nature has not vanished; brutal fights in taverns or violence in families is quite common here. Finnish people are aware and are not very pleased by that, yet they have not found any solution for this problem.
My last words about this journey in this blog: I am glad that I undertook this journey, hereby I thank to everyone who helped us on our way and I am looking forward to my next adventure :)
