We successfully arrived in the working camp and everything was great. Firstly, we thought that our journey was over, but as usually, we got inspired by someone to do some more travelling. So, during the weekend we simply “disappeared” with the permission of the camp leader to undertake a new journey to northern Finland – Lapland. We still had 2 extra days on our Interrail passes and it was a clever idea to take an advantage of that. Now I am happy that I can write in present tense, because until know, I have been rewriting my notes from the past and I think that writing with some expectations and hopes is way more interesting than writing only summaries about what has happened. To start with, this trip will cost us virtually nothing. The train is for free thanks to the Interrail tickets, we will get a ride from Eura to Tampere and back from Thuomas, our chief camp leader, and we are not going to pay for any seats reservations. Furthermore, we were allowed to take some food with us, so no expenses on that either. That is so great – finally I can spend my money on something more useful - on souvenirs and other cheap crap, for instance.
We set off from Eura to Tampere at 3:15 – a little bit later as we were supposed to, because Lila got held up in the supermarket. I thought that travelling by car would be monumentally boring, but it turned out to be a great fun. We have discussed many issues about Slovakia and Finland, about our hopes, plans and dreams. Thuomas regaled us with many mesmerizing stories about the Finish civil war, the Gypsies in Finland, the social system here etc. I will write a separate story about Finnish gypsies, cause what I have heard from him sounds to me like a fairytale and I am sure that these facts will be fascinating for Slovaks. 20 minutes before Tampere we were passing Nokia, which is actually a town where the famous Nokia cellphones are produced. Well, not really, not a single cell phone was manufactured in this small Finnish city, but this company comes from here. It had been famous long time before they broadened out their products to cell phones. Nokia still produces here high-quality winter tires and different stuff in this factory.
Thuomas was obviously in a hurry; he had to pick up his daughters from the kindergarten. Then he gave us a short ride around the city, giving advice where to go and what to see. After picking up the girls he took us to a special sightseeing tower built on a hill between two big lakes. He even offered to take our backpacks home where we could pick them up later. It was awfully nice of him; I expected that he would just drop us off somewhere in the city and drive off. I am really happy that he was so helpful. We saved a lot of money on bus tickets; he showed us places where we normally would not have gone.
We spent about 5 hours to look around Tampere. We had plenty of time to see everything.
