At the beginning, I have to mention that I was being very grumpy on our way home. I am quite surprised that Lila took my bitching so calmly, but it is probably because she understood what was going on. I will not write anything about it here, because it deserves its own blog. Needless to say, I was out of mind almost for the whole journey and my mood even exaggerated several times after hearing rather unpleasant news. In short, Jakko, one of our camp leaders, gave us a ride to Tampere where we took a train to Helsinki. It was very nice of him, thanks to him we saved another 17, maybe even 34€ (supposing that we had to pay full price tickets). We went to Helsinki with Alice, an Italian girl from the camp, and after a short farewell we went straight to the Olympia terminal to lock our backpacks. It was Saturday and we had to wait for our ship till Sunday afternoon. Luckily, Jakko also arranged some accommodation for us. A friend of him, Marco, was willing to offer us a place to stay. He even invited us to a birthday party of his fiancée s sister. Firstly, I was quite shocked, because it is not very common for Slovakians to invite completely strange people for such an event, but as we were said that Finnish are very hospital and expect the same when they arrive to another country. Fortunately, I am of the same nature, but I am afraid that they will not find this kind of behaviour anywhere else. Nevertheless, I hope they will for making such a favour to us. Originally, we planned to sleep in a park, yet we were strongly warned not to do that. Although Finland is a quite safe country, it is said to be a very bad idea to sleep somewhere in a park, while junkies, drunkies and drug addicted walk higgledy-piggledy through these places at night. We could have been easily stubbed by an insane, drunk Finnish, not mentioning that we could freeze there during the night. Anyhow, I did not feel like doing that. I was both pissed off and desperate, and I highly appreciate any cosiness. So, we met Marco at 6pm, after a funny map hunt for 10 sexshops that Lila insisted to visit. I was like OK, whatever, I wanna see them too, but in the end not a single one was open :P Nevermind, I enjoyed my mocking laugh after visiting each one and finding that it was closed. After an unsuccessful tour de sexshops we visited a nice church nearby and went to meet Marco. He took us to the pub where the party was going on. I think a friend of mine, Mirka, would really appreciate this kind of party: everything was in a Japanese style, because this sister was a freak into Japanese rock and culture in general. It was unusual for me, but still very cute. They had an absolutely great birthday cake, i really enjoy it. First two hours we sat separately, talking with each other and then we joined the Finnish group. Drinks were awfully expensive, but Marco bought some for us. To sum up, there were 4 different music bands playing on that party and there was even a draft qeen show (men wearing women clothes and making singer poses and gestures as if they were singing it) Looks pretty gayish, but it was a lot of fun. After joyining the Finnish table, we had a great chat with a nice Finnish couple, talking about metal music, melancholy and the connection between them. When they left, we became very sleepy, because we were still tired after the last farewall party. However, we were not allowed to sleep in bar, so we had to do our best to stay wide-awake. For an hour, Marco regaled us with his travelling stories. I was quite amazed that he has visited more in Slovakia than me. He has been to Kosice, the High Tatras, and several small towns. As he said, the best experience for him was a finding that in Tesco he could buy 0.5l cheap vodka or 1.5l mineral water for the same price. What a hard decision – lol, no need for an explanation what he went for He remembered a lot, supposing the was there 6 years ago. His cathedral characteristic in Kosice was pretty mesmerizing. Shame on me – I have travelled around Canada and Europe and I have not seen Slovakia in detail yet. Well, next time
When the party was over, we took a taxi to his place. I thought that we were going to sleep, but he wanted to drink some Polish Zubrowka, so of course that I could not refuse such an invitation. After that we even had a small joint, but sincerely, I cannot tell you much about what happened after that
Next morning was very dull for us. The weather was awful – pretty cold and rainy. We could not wake up Marco despite our best efforts, so I could not say buy to him. At least I thanked his fiancée for everything and exchanged our contacts. We had to walk for 1.5 hour through suburb areas until we reached the downtown. Being tired and hungry, we almost froze on the way to the terminal. When we finally board on the ship, we went straight to bed and slept until the evening. As usually, I overslept and Lila was mad that she had to knock on my door for 10 minutes until I finally got up.
We did not do anything special in the evening except shopping some booze, taking pictures of the sunset and staying for a while in cabaret. That night we finally caught on our sleep we were so much deprived of.
